Bellefonte School District
Bellefonte is the home of the Red Raiders, which is the Bellefonte School District's mascot. The school colors are red and white. The school district is a midsized, rural, public school district drawing from the towns of Bellefonte, Howard, Pleasant Gap, Zion, and Centre Hall. It operates 4 Elementary Schools, a Middle School, and a High School – all providing a variety of clubs, activities, and interscholastic sports.
Bellefonte is situated about 12 miles northeast of State College and is the county seat of Centre County. The town showcases many examples of Victorian architecture and is well known for its natural spring. The name was bestowed by Charles Maurice de Talleyrand-Perigord during a visit to central Pennsylvania in the 1790s, for land speculation. Legend has it that upon seeing the spring, he exclaimed "La belle fonte!" - meaning "beautiful fountain".
