About Milesburg
Sitting just north of Bellefonte on the site of a former Lenape Indian settlement known as Bald Eagle's Nest, with a population of nearly 1,200, is the Borough of Milesburg. The town was named for and founded in 1793 by Colonel Samuel Miles, a Revolutionary War officer, early mayor of Philadelphia, and part owner of Centre Furnace Iron Works. Miles started the Milesburg Forge to forge Centre Furnace pig iron into a more easily transportable form. At first, they were floated on arks down Bald Eagle Creek to the Susquehanna. Later, a canal system was created that linked Bellefonte and Lock Haven, allowing them to reach. Later still, the Bellefonte Central and Bald Eagle Valley Railroad passed through Milesburg on their way to and from the neighboring town of Bellefonte.
Nearby state game lands and the junction of Bald Eagle and Spring creeks make it a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts and anglers. The homes range from historic to modern offer a variety of choices for the discerning home buyer! Milesburg offers a peaceful small-town vibe, with larger towns a short drive away on the nearby Interstate 80!
